SCHOOL &
COMMUNITY

Clinics

Walk Off Charities conducts clinics each year for area third graders, mostly from schools in underserved areas, executed in conjuntion with Duval County Public Schools. We also create community clinics through local parks. We provide each child with:

A NEW
GLOVE
BALLPARK
LUNCH
QUALITY
INSTRUCTION

Who doesn't love a new glove?! In order to play the game after the clinic is over, every child needs the proper equipment. A glove is the first step towards equipping the next generation of players!

Our clinics work up quite the appetite, but there's only one thing to eat at the ballpark. We have the best ballpark fare thanks to our partners at Bono's providing quality smoked hot dogs, chips, and drinks!

Thanks to the great relationships we share with local high schools and colleges, we are able to provide some of the best baseball instruction around. Read more about our curriculum below.

BASEBALL IS ABOUT TALENT, HARDWORK, AND STRATEGY. BUT AT THE DEEPEST LEVEL IT'S ABOUT love, integrity, AND respect

WHAT WE Teach

IMG_7915 (1).jpg
BATTING

We start with teaching them the basics of hitting a ball off the tee. Keeping their eye on the ball is the key baseball piece, but we teach them about launch angle - hitting the ball up makes it go in the air, hitting the ball down makes it go towards the ground.

PITCHING

Each student gets the opportunity to pitch from the mound, but first, they have to learn the basics. Come set, step, and throw. As part of that process, the coaches discuss the angle of release and the effect it has on the pitch. Another piece of this station is how fastballs are fast - the proper pieces of pitching to create velocity

FIELDING

Coming on the same field as batting, our fielding station is where we teach the children about ground balls and fly balls. In this station, we discuss how gravity brings the ball back to earth - but also how to judge it. We also discussed how to judge the speed of a ground ball.

THROWING

Throwing is a fundamental part of all sports, including baseball. When a student first picks up a baseball, it immediately suggests its purpose is being thrown fast. In this station, we focus on the fundamentals and how to throw with accuracy.

EDUCATION

In conjunction with Duval County Public Schools, every student is assigned a writing prompt upon leaving each clinic to allow them to vocalize their willingness to play on a team and how baseball should be available for anyone.
